When people think of Africa and safari’s, they picture great herds of elephants, prides of lions strolling across the plains and all the other animals normally seen in a zoo. Tanzania offers all of those, with tours for game sighting, hunting and photo safari.

In NgoroNgoro Conservation Area, 4-wheel drive vehicles descend to the floor of the crater. Inside the collapsed caldera of this ancient volcano visitors can expect to see wildebeest, zebra, many varieties of antelope, lions, cheetah and buffalo. On the crater’s rim visitors may see baboons, an elephant and, for the very lucky, a rare black rhinoceros.Never heard of this before? Get up to speed here.

In the nearby Serengeti National Park, adventurous visitors chase down leopards, hippopotamus, lions and elephants. Twice a year the “Great Migration” of wildebeest and zebra moves through the park. 750,000 of these animals circle between Tanzania and Kenya every year, following food sources, and a good tour guide knows where to find them.

There is nothing quite like the first time you watch a wild giraffe cross the dirt track in front of you. Or seeing a well-fed pride of lions napping in the shade just meters away. By the time the tour is over, zoos just aren’t good enough anymore.

The first explorers to push into the wilderness areas of what is now South Africa were often turned back by local tribe and it wasn-t until the 1830s that forward outposts were established. Soon after, hoards of Europeans came for the rumors of gold, ivory and skins and farmers sought the rich soils. There was a mass destruction of wildlife by the fortune seeking hunters and President Paul Kruger pleaded with the parliament to establish a game reserve in the lowveld to protect the threatened species.Confused? Here ‘s a little help . Thanks to this visionary, Kruger National Park is the largest in South Africa and one of the last bastions of African big game.

Today the park is replete with luxurious safari lodges, well appointed tent camps and ongoing tours on foot, horseback and by four wheel drive safari vehicles. The wildlife lives peacefully in its natural habitat and visitors are assured of being able to view herds of elephants, prides of lions, black and white rhinos, powerful cape buffalo and during evening forays, visitors may catch a glimpse of the elusive leopard. A trip to Kruger National park is a trip back in time to observe Africa as it was in a primal state.

Dontt let the news scare you or get spooked by that diamond trading movie you saw on Direct TV. South Africa’s a great place to visit! If you find yourself in Cape Town be sure to enjoy a few of our favorite activities while you-re there
Table Mountain: A great walk for kids and adults alike, this one shouldn’t be attempted without a guide. Guides are relatively inexpensive, though, so don-t worry about breaking the bank. Just bring extra camera batteries and a big jug of water!
Boulders Beach: There aren’t many places in the world where you can see penguins on the beach but Boulders is one of them. It’s a great spot that gets crowded with locals and tourists alike on the weekends so get there early to scope out a good spot.
Robben Island: If you don’t like boats, skip this one, but if you can handle the 40 minute ferry ride you should definitely head out to world heritage site Robben Island. There are tons of natural flora and fauna to behold and you’ll be hard pressed to get a better view of the skyline of Cape Town.

The very word Kilimanjaro conjures up memories of Hemingway’s stories, and brings to mind pictures of zebra and giraffes, backed by this snow-capped mountain. Mount Kilimanjaro is the main attraction for the national park. It is the highest mountain in Africa and one of the largest volcanoes in the world. For those who want to make the climb, be aware that much training and preparation need to go into your mountain safari to make it a safe ascent. Those who make it to the top say it is an exhilarating, almost surreal experience.

Expedition adventures in Kilimanjaro National Park can be expanded to include safaris to Lake Manyara National Park, where you can find an abundance of animals from elephants to the lions who enjoy sleeping away the day in the acacia trees. Also nearby is the Ngorongoro Crater, which holds the history of man’s beginnings. To drive down, down to the floor of the crater and watch the spectacle of predator stalking prey may be your best memory of the trip. The only way to top this would be to go to the Serengeti National Park for what is said to be the best animal viewing in all Africa. If you like what you see, keep going: Welcome to East Africa – Kilimanjaro National Park, Tanzania

For those that enjoy photography, a safari trip in Kruger National Park can provide all sorts of inspiration. One will have the opportunity to photograph all sorts of animals in their natural habitats. You can find a quick rundown here A safari trip is not just enjoyable for photography professionals, however. Children and even the elderly will also enjoy a safari trip in Kruger National Park.

Taking an elderly person on a safari trip can be a thoughtful gift from a family member. A safari trip can show any elderly person that life can still be fun and exciting even at an old age. For children, a safari trip can be an educational experience that stays with them their entire lives.

Another way to enjoy the scenery of South Africa is to have an actual portrait done of family members. There are many photographers on hand that can take pictures of the family on a safari at an affordable cost.

Don’t miss going to Malawi for your next safari. This small country in southeastern Africa is little known, but has the most diverse geography of any country on the continent. In Malawi you will find eleven national parks protecting a wide range of habitats. So, within a relatively small area, you’ll have many choices as to the kind of safari to take. Also, the third largest lake in Africa is here, stretching 360 miles along the eastern border of Malawi – sparkling clear Lake Malawi.

Liwonde National Park at the southern end of Lake Malawi is the most varied and spectacular of the parks with its swamps, marshes, open grassland, woodlands of various types, and granite hills along the shoreline of the lake.Get more information here. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1383871/Crocodile-attacks-hippo-photographer-trying-capture-kingfisher-picture.html?ITO1490 This diversity means Liwonde is the one of the best places to go for game viewing. Large herds of elephants and hippoes, antelopes, and waterbuck are easy to view. Reptiles you will see include crocodiles and monitor lizards. (Lions and leopards are in the park, but these you can’t really count on seeing.) The best bird viewing in southern Africa is in this park, as well, with over 300 species.

Go to Malawi for a great safari!
